The Silent Auction held on Saturday, November 27, 2010 was very successful and all for the benefit of children at Our Lady of Armenia orphanage in Gyumri, and Children’s Fund for Armenia. We made enough money with financial donations and items sold to also give 20% to Mher Avanesyan, the paralympic athlete who is establishing himself as a sheep farmer in the homeland. This event would not have been possible without the dedication and tireless efforts of a committee of seven. They were as follows, Astra Yaghdjian, Arax Amirians, Brigitte Karakas, Hasmig Isbeceryan, Nania Tchakedjian Bache, Sirarpy Arslanian and Taline Giragosian.
The local community, parishioners of our Church and people from far away places such as Eastern Canada and the U.S.A. contributed to this charity event. People started arriving at Setrak Kalpakian Hall after 7:00p.m. and the Hall and items were very well decorated and artistically arranged. They started to bid taking great interest in the items, and all ages of people were present. Others proceeded to make financial donations. After putting in their bids, they’d relax and munch on all the goodies prepared and donated by our community members, and sipping at a beverage of their choice. It was a happy and emotional event filled with a sense of giving for the underprivileged children of Armenia. We hope to make this a yearly event. Thank you to all !
